Central Vietnam braced for another tropical storm
VOV.VN - A new tropical low depression has formed in the East Sea and is likely to strengthen into a storm in the next two days, according to meteorologists.
At around 01.00hrs October 15 the depression was churning across central Philippines and is forecast to be moving west north-west into the East Sea in the next 24 hours at a speed of approximately 20kph.
It will then sustain its speed and gain strength into a storm, the eighth to hit the East Sea this year.
Vu Duc Long, vice director of the National Centre of Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, said the new storm is likely to directly impact central Vietnam which have borne the brunt of the two subsequent storms in the past week.
Heavy rain is expected to fall again in the central provinces of Vietnam from October 16 to October 21.
Meteorologists have yet to anticipate the rainfall to be recorded in the coming days, but heavy downpour will certainly exacerbate flooding in the region.
Nangka, the seventh storm in the East Sea this year, weakened into a tropical low depression before making landfall in north-central Vietnam October 14. However, it is still causing torrential rain in the region.
Meteorologists have warned about severe flooding and landslides in low-lying and mountainous areas.
