A senior Lao official has complimented Vietnam’s volunteer forces and Lao soldiers for leaving the most beautiful memories of kindness, and faithfulness in the hearts and minds of the residents of Laos’ southernmost region, whom they fought alongside during their war with the French colonialists.

Samane Viyaketh, Politburo member and Head of the Steering Board for Ideology, Theory and Culture of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) made this comment during a meeting on February 19 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the former joint Ha Lao military base in the southernmost province of Attapeu.

The meeting was attended by Khamtay Siphandone, former LPRP President and State President, and To Huy Rua, Politburo member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and Head of the CPV Central Committee’s Commission of Information and Education, among other distinguished guests.

It brought together tens of thousands of Lao people, scientists, veteran revolutionaries, and former Vietnamese and Lao advisers and soldiers who fought shoulder to shoulder at the former southernmost Lao stronghold.

Viyaketh also called upon residents of the country’s southernmost region in particular and the Lao people in general to preserve and further foster the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation they have long-established with Vietnam.

On the same day, a gathering of historical eye-witnesses and those who fought at the former southernmost military base took place.

On February 18, Vietnamese delegates were received by Khamtay Siphandone. The two sides exchanged views on the role of the Ha Lao stronghold in the Vietnamese and Lao revolutions.
