He made the remark at a recent meeting with Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Le Linh Lan, stressing cooperation potential in economy, trade, culture, education, health care, agriculture, tourism and mineral.

Zacatecas wishes to set up connections through pairing with provinces and cities in Vietnam, he said, appreciating contributions by Vietnamese doctors who are working at the acupuncture centre of the Autonomous University of Zacatecas (UAZ).

The governor also hailed the sound relations since the two countries established diplomatic ties on May 19, 1975, adding that he expects to lead a delegation of Zacatecas officials and entrepreneurs to Vietnam to seek cooperation chances in the near future.

Ambassador Lan thanked the Zacatecas administration for its support to the acupuncture cooperation project between the UAZ and Vietnam’s National Hospital of Acupuncture. She said she hopes that bilateral cooperation will be expanded to many other aspects.

On this occasion, the diplomat introduced Vietnam’s outstanding socio-economic achievements over more than 30 years of reform, along with its growing stature in the region and the world. She also said that Mexico’s participation in APEC Vietnam 2017 will substantially contribute to the success of the forum.

Earlier, Lan met with Mayor of Zacatecas city Judit Guerrero Lopez to seek ways to promote the city’s cultural, educational and tourism collaboration with Vietnamese cities.

Judit Guerrero Lopez said her city was recognised as a world heritage site by UNESCO and is considered a city of education and creativity of Mexico. It is ready to share experience in the management and development of education, tourism and cultural heritage preservation with its Vietnamese counterparts.

During her working visit to Zacatecas from May 25-28, Ambassador Lan also had a meeting with UAZ Rector Antonio Guzman Fernandez to talk measures to increase student and lecturer exchanges with universities in Vietnam.

The rector spoke highly of the cooperation between the UAZ’s acupuncture centre and Vietnam’s National Hospital of Acupuncture, which has sent tens of doctors to Zacatecas state over the last decade. He hoped that the continued cooperation with the Vietnamese hospital will turn the UAZ into a leading acupuncture training centre in Mexico and Latin America.

He also commended Vietnamese students in the UAZ and pledged to provide more scholarships for students from the Southeast Asian nation.
