Vietnam, UK sign MoU on PPP

(VOV) - Vietnam and the UK have signed the first Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on public private partnership (PPP).

The document was signed on January 23 by Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh and UK Minister of State for International Development Alan Duncan during Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong’s trip to the UK and Northern Ireland.

Minister Vinh said he hopes the PPP model, with cooperation and assistance from the UK, will grow considerably in Vietnam.

The two nations have great potential for developing this model to mobilize capital for infrastructure development and Vietnam is seeking more capital resources from the private sector to support infrastructure projects in the country, Vinh said.

In his meeting with Minister Vinh after the signing ceremony, Alan Duncan highlighted the fine development of Vietnam-UK relations which, he said, will primarily focus on trade links in the coming time.

He also praised Vietnam for effectively using ODA funding for socio-economic development.

Vinh thanked the UK for assisting Vietnam in its poverty reduction and implementation of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Both ministers said their officials will meet and discuss ways to increase UK investment in Vietnam.

The same day, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh met with UK Minister of State at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office Hugo Swire, UK and Northern Ireland ambassador to Vietnam Antony Stokes and Vietnamese Minister-Counselor to the UK and Northern Ireland Le Thu Hang.

They compared notes on international and regional issues of common concern and agreed to strengthen the strategic partnership in the year marking the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties (1973-2013) and fully implement the agreements reached by the two sides during Party leader Trong’s visit to the UK.
