Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on Dec. 31 approved a project on preserving the ruins of the ancient Cham capital at My Son in the central province of Quang Nam.

The VND280-billion project, funded by the State budget, and organisations and individuals inside and outside the country, is being carried out from 2008 to 2010. It aims to prevent further deterioration at all heritage remains and the natural landscape of My Son, which was recognised as a World Cultural Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1999.

The project will also focus on landmine clearance, toxic chemical removal, as well as the preservation and upgrade of the ancient temples and towers in My Son.
