In 2007 and 2008, the epidemic was basically controlled in some provinces such as Thanh Hoa, Khanh Hoa, Binh Dinh and Da Nang City.
In 2008, the number of affected and killed cattle dropped by 80-90 percent against 2007 and 80 percent of cattle herds were vaccinated.
However, the epidemic has spread to many more localities. Since early this year, the disease has been reported in 229 communes belonging to 87 districts of 27 provinces and cities across the country with a total number of 7,800 affected buffaloes and cows of which 430 were killed.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said it will supervise the transport of cattle across the border and help animal breeders to be fully aware of how to prevent the disease effectively and control imported products.
