A troupe of nine dancers and musicians from India will perform in Ho Chi Minh City on October 7 to mark the 61st anniversary of India’s independence.

A classical Kathak dance by Dipanwita Singha Roy and Daniel Freddy and a sitar recital by musician Sayyed Ahmed Alvi will be played.

Dipanwita Singha Roy is a disciple of Pandit Birju Maharaj who has performed both in India and abroad, while Daniel Freddy is highly proficient in both Kathak and Chau dance and has performed around the world.

Sayyed Ahmed Alvi hails from Atawa Ghrana and is one of India’s more eminent schools that teach the sitar. He is a disciple of famed musician Ustad Aziz Khan and a top artist on All-India Radio and has given numerous performances on every continent.

The concert will take place under the provisions of the cultural exchange programme between the Indian and Vietnamese governments for the years 2007-2010.
