Vietnamese embassies and Overseas Vietnamese communities in Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Russia, France, China, Hong Kong and India have held diverse activities to mark National Day (September 2).

An incense offering ceremony in commemoration of late President Ho Chi Minh was held at the Vietnamese Embassy in Paris on August 31. The ceremony was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Dinh Bin, embassy staff and representatives of the Vietnamese mission to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).


Shortly after that, the Vietnamese delegation led by Mr Bin paid a floral tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his monument located inside Montreau Park in Montreuil city on the outskirts of Paris. Vice mayor of Montreuil city Jean-Jacques Joucla and many other French friends attended the ceremony.


Vietnamese diplomats in Russia celebrated the anniversary together with Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov, President of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association Vladimir Buyakov and local officials.


The Russian guests lauded the Vietnamese people's Renewal achievements and the two countries' cooperative ties. They said they believe that Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung's upcoming visit to Russia will lift bilateral strategic partnership to a new height.

The Vietnamese community in Russia held a host of cultural performances and sports competitions to mark the homeland's National Day.


In India, Vietnamese Ambassador Vu Quang Diem hosted a reception with the attendance of Indian State Minister of Foreign Affairs E. Ahamed, diplomats from other countries and Indian friends.


Ambassador Diem said Vietnam-India relationship has developed well in the fields of politics, security, defence, economy, science and technology and culture and that the two countries aim to increase their trade turnover from US$1 billion to US$2 billion in the next three years.


The Vietnamese Embassy in Beijing, China, also held a get-together on August 31 to celebrate Vietnam’s National Day, drawing representatives from Chinese ministries and agencies, foreign embassies in China, Vietnamese representative offices, Vietnamese businesses and students in China as well as members of the Vietnamese community.

Addressing the event, Ambassador to China Tran Van Luat, thanked foreign countries for their support to Vietnam over the past years and reiterated the country’s policy of strengthening friendship and cooperation with all countries.


The Vietnam Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macao held a get-together for Vietnamese nationals to celebrate the glorious victory of the August 1945 Revolution and National Day.


A reception was also held in Ottawa by the Vietnamese Embassy in Canada to celebrate the event, which brought together representatives from the government, the Vietnam-Canada Friendship Organisation, business circles and Vietnamese nationals living in Canada.


Vietnamese embassies in Laos, Cambodia and Thailand also hosted receptions marking the event.
