More than 30 police officers from Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam began a training course in Hanoi on June 12 to increase their capacity building in the fighting against trafficking in women and children for the purpose of prostitution.

The five-day course, which was conducted by French lecture, will provide an opportunity for the participants to discuss strategies of action and share experiences in investigation techniques and consolidating their cooperation in the fight against human trafficking.

Vietnam is one of the first countries in the world to have signed the UN Convention on the Right of the Child. It has maintained a persistent policy of respect for and protection of the basic rights of women and children. The Ministry of Public Security, in collaboration with other relevant ministries and agencies, has acted as an advisor to the Government in mapping out a plan of action on fighting human trafficking in the 2004-2010 period.

Additionally, relevant Vietnamese agencies have taken comprehensive measures to fight human trafficking, including boosting education, perfecting legal documents and cooperating internationally.
