Ho Chi Minh City’s Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association organised its congress for the 2011-2016 tenure on November 3.

Established in August 1984, the association has contributed to strengthening mutual understanding, and developing friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos as well as localities in both countries.

In addition to major events such as Laos National Day, the traditional Lunar New Year festival of Bunpimay, and reciprocal visits, the association has also organised cultural exchanges and competitions about Laos and its people which has promoted friendship among the young people of both countries.

Association members have participated in writing books, articles, and memoirs about special solidarity between Vietnamese army volunteers and the Lao army and people.

The President of the HCM City Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association, Phan Xuan Bien, said that the Party and State as well as HCM City to further the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos, which was founded and nurtured by late President Ho Chi Minh and late Lao President Kaysone Phomvihane.
