The Vietnam Fatherland Front held its third consultative conference in Hanoi on April 14 to make an official list of eligible candidates for the upcoming election of deputies to the 12th National Assembly.

VFF Standing Board said that it had received a total of 167 reports from local voter conferences giving their opinions on 167 candidates at the central level.

At the meeting, the delegates heard the results of clarifying petitions against the candidates. Accordingly, the Central Election Council and the VFF have received 16 petitions and complaints against the candidates. After inspections, 14 of them have not violated the criteria of NA deputies, and the remaining two violated namely Vu Xuan Hong, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and Nguyen Van Thuong, President of Vietnam Red Cross Society.

However, the delegates agreed to include Mr Hong and Mr Thuong in the preliminary list for voting.

They voted in favour of a proposal by candidate Nguyen Viet Chuc to withdraw from the list for illness reasons.
Mr Chuc now is Vice Chairman of the NA Committee for Culture, Science, Education, Youth and Children.
