Doctors from the Hanoi-based Central Paediatric Hospital will conduct the first marrow and original cell transplant surgeries in Vietnam in July with assistance from Australian colleagues.

According to the hospital’s director Nguyen Thanh Liem, two patients with serious marrow failure have been chosen and tests for donors and receivers have been made.

Mr Liem said his colleagues are preparing for another liver transplant, the second at the hospital and fifth in the country, for a 12-month girl in Hanoi with the support of doctors coming from the Republic of Korea. The surgery will also be free of charge for the girl.
