(VOV) - World Vision Japan will provide more than US$750,000 in non-refundable aid for a maternal and infant health improvement project in Dien Bien province.

The signing ceremony for the Japan NGO-funded project was held in Hanoi on November 30.

The project will help upgrade infrastructure at communal medical centres and assist locals in Muong Cha and Tuan Giao districts gain access to maternal and infant healthcare services.

Many of Dien Bien province’s medical centres currently fail to meet national standards. Most local people belong to ethnic minorities and face additional difficulties to accessing free healthcare services because of linguistic and cultural barriers.

Japanese envoy to Vietnam Hideo Suzuki confirmed Japan will continue to support Vietnam’s maternal and infant healthcare program, adding that the current project would help deepen the mutual understanding and ties of friendship between the two countries.
