The Truong Hai Auto Joint Stock Company (THACO) plans to build the country’s first auto mechanical engineering industrial zone in the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone in central Quang Ngai province.

The 1,300 ha zone will produce components and spare parts for local and Southeast Asian carmakers, a THACO manager has said.

THACO CEO Tran Ba Duong revealed that THACO has sold 32,262 vehicles of various types assembled at the Chu Lai-Truong Hai Auto Plant since 2004, earning more than VND6.5 trillion in revenues. The plant has generated jobs for more than 2,000 workers with each earning an average monthly income of VND1.7 million.

Early this year, THACO inaugurated another plant, specialising in assembling tourist cars.
