Vietnam and Argentina will establish an all-around cooperation in customs, underscoring the increasing importance of having a bilateral cooperation agreement in the field.

This was underlined in the minutes signed by Deputy Director General of the General Department of Vietnam Customs Nguyen Van Can and Director General of Customs Service of Argentina Siomara Ayeran regarding preparations for the signing of the Vietnam-Argentina customs cooperation agreement.

The signing ceremony took place in Buenos Aires during Deputy Finance Minister Do Hoang Anh Tuan’s recent working visit, which aimed to stimulate bilateral customs cooperation mechanisms and seek possibilities for bilateral coordination in financial management fields.

Deputy Finance Minister Tuan held a working session with Vice Secretary of State for Economic Cooperation Alejandro Robba during which he underscored the need for the two countries’ customs offices to reach a cooperation agreement, especially the exchange of information.

He said the agreement will help increase the transparency in bilateral trade ties as well as strengthen the legal framework for the two countries’ economic cooperation.

Tuan also proposed joint cooperation in studying possibilities for a double taxation avoidance agreement and collaboration in countering trade frauds to create favourable conditions for the two countries’ businesspeople and their economic ties.

Robba affirmed the importance of trade exchange to each national economy and discussed world economic issues with Tuan.

The two countries saw their two-way trade value rising sharply from US$32 million in 2001 to US$600 million in 2009.
