An exhibition on contemporary Vietnamese culture opened in Washington D.C. on June 20 on the occasion of State President Nguyen Minh Triet’s visit to the US.

The installation exhibition is the first of its kind showcasing water puppetry, painting, photography and music outside Vietnam.

Black and white photographs, paintings and around 700 traditional and modern puppets together with rice, maize, water jars and baskets have been installed to reproduce scenes of festivals, fishing and the country's landscape.

The five-day event is taking place at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Centre.
