Remains of US serviceman repatriated

VOV.VN - A ceremony was held at Danang International Airport on April 12 to repatriate the remains of a US serviceman who died during the war in Vietnam.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP), the US Consulate General in HCM City, the US Defence Attaché Office in Hanoi, the US Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) and the US MIA Office in Hanoi.

Vietnam handed over the remains that were recovered during the 122nd Joint Field Activity from February to April.

Vietnamese and US forensic experts in Danang have examined the remains which might belong to a US soldier killed during the war in Vietnam, and recommended the remains be taken to Hawaii for further examination.

At the ceremony, the US government representative praised the Vietnamese government and people for their humanitarian policy, goodwill, and cooperation.

This is the 137th repatriation occasion since 1973 at Danang International Airport.
