Various activities have been held in the central coastal city of Nha Trang as part of the 2007 Nha Trang Sea Festival, which began on June 10. Visitors were attracted to a kite flying festival, a swimming tournament, a photo exhibition, a flower arranging contest and a beer festival.

*** A kite flying festival was held at April 2 Square in Nha Trang City on June 10 by the Ho Chi Minh City Cultural Centre’s Kite Club. The club planned to show off 50 kites of different colours and sizes in the sky, but unfavourable weather conditions prevented most of the kites from taking off.

Besides the former imperial city of Hue, HCM City is one of Vietnam’s two leading developers of the kite flying art.

*** As many as 142 athletes from Nha Trang City, Cam Ranh town, Ninh Hoa district, Nha Trang University and the Navy Institute held a swimming tournament on the same day. They competed for four sets of medals in the men’s and women’s individual and team events.

The tournament is held annually to promote the traditional sports event as well as the sport and physical training movement in Khanh Hoa province.

*** A photo exhibition entitled The Beauty of the Aloe-wood Land was also held, displaying about 200 works by 52 photographers from HCM City, Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa provinces. These works feature the powerful vitality of coastal people and enormous changes in this area. The exhibition will run through to June 15.

*** In response to the 2007 Nha Trang Sea Festival, the Khanh Hoa provincial Women’s Union held a flower arranging contest, attracting contestants from 25 teams in the province. Teams had to complete their works within 60 minutes, naming and presenting them in front of the judging penal. According to a penal member, many works showed contestants’ skills and creativity inspired by the cultural values of the coastal land.

*** On this occasion, local people and visitors have the chance to savour the taste of different beer products offered by San Miguel Beer Company. Beer-related contests were also launched by the company during the three-day beer festival which will close on June 13.

After Nha Trang, the company will play host to a similar beer festival in central Da Nang city.

RASS company has begun the operation of a tourist resort depicting the typical countryside characteristics in the South-western region. Coming to the site, visitors have the chance to explore the origin of crisscrossed canals and one-trunk bridges, and enjoy typical fruits and traditional dishes of the region.

The company has also organised music and dance programmes and shows of traditional costumes to promote the image of tourism in other regions.
