The expansion of HIV/AIDS treatment in Vietnam is facing obstacles because many HIV patients have failed to access treatment and care services and 90 percent of antiretroviral (ARV) drugs provided by international donors will be cut in the near future.

This information was released at a conference held by the Ministry of Health and the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention in Danang on October 24 and 25.

More than 200 participants at the event, including foreign experts, shared lessons and experiences in providing treatment and health care for HIV patients.

Tran Thi Ngoc, Director of the HIV/AIDS Prevention Centre in Thua Thien-Hue province, said investment in HIV/AIDS projects is very limited in her locality and the centre is mobilizing all possible social sources to take care of those infected with the disease.
