Party chief urges trial of major corruption cases

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong asked relevant agencies to bring some major corruption cases to trial in the remaining months of this year at a working session with the Central Steering Committee on Anti-corruption in Hanoi on November 25.

At the meeting, Party leader Trong said the battle against corruption has seen great progress and earned public applause and praised the Committee’s specific plan of action to redouble anti-corruption efforts.

However, the settlement of some case have been overdue due to difficulties in investigation, verification, and asset reclamation.

Trong asked the committee to focus on dealing with the case of Trinh Xuan Thanh at the PetroVietnam Construction Corporation (PVC) and the PCV’s investment of VND800 billion VND (US$35.19 million) in OceanBank. The cases must be brought to trial in the remainder of this year and February 2018 as latest, he noted.

He also requested competent agencies coordinate closely to accelerate the investigation, prosecution and judgment of urgent corruption cases of public concern.

Members of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption’s Standing Board have agreed upon plans to complete the investigation, prosecution and judgment of 23 corruption and economic cases in 2017 and the first quarter of next year.
