Japan funds school boarding house in Kon Tum

The Japanese Government will provide over US$120,000 in non-refundable aid to build an eight-room boarding house for Dak Ro Nga secondary school in Dak To district, Kon Tum province.

A contract to this effect was signed by Yasuaki Tanizaki, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam, and Tran Van Ca, Chairman of the Vietnam Support for the Handicapped Association, which is in charge of realising the construction, in Hanoi on December 17.

The school has 246 students with more than half living in the boarding house because of the long distance from their homes to school.

However, the existing house can only lodge 60, not to mention the 12 teachers that also need accommodation.

Dak Ro Nga commune is home to 2,700 people, with 60 percent categorised as poor. The residents predominately farm low-value produce like rice, cassava and corn, and plant trees.
