Vietnamese grandmaster Le Quang Liem has qualified for the third round of the 2011 World Chess Cup after defeating Russian rival Boris Grachev on September 1.

Liem is among the world’s 32 top players who have all qualified for the third round. Next he will meet the winner of the game between GM. Lazaro Bruzon Batista (ELO 2637) and GM. Francisco Vallejo Pons (ELO 2724).

His teammate, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, was involved in a drawn match with GM. Peter Svidler (ELO 2739) on September 1. Son will play again in a tiebreak game, in which the winner is calculated by adding the sum of the player's points he has defeated by to half the sum of the points from the drawn match.
