Vietnam, Hungary bolster trade ties

(VOV) - Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ho Thi Kim Thoa on March 13 led a Vietnamese delegation attending the opening of the sixth Vietnam-Hungary Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation, which convened in Hanoi.

Secretary of State of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Mikola István led the Hungarian delegation attending the event.

During the session, both sides assessed the status of implementing cooperative agreements since the fifth meeting and how best to consolidate and expand economic, trade, scientific and technological relations in the future.

Both sides also debated the pros and cons of future cooperation in fields such as industry, health, agriculture, safe water, education and training, environmental protection, tourism, the development of infrastructure and national defense.

According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, last year’s total import-export turnover of goods between Vietnam and Hungary increased 19% on-year to US$175 million. Vietnam’s exports to Hungary reached more than US$55 million with key items including garments and textiles, spare parts, and means of transport.
