The first phase of a Germany-funded project to assist the Vietnamese technical vocational education and training system was signed in Hanoi on September 16.

The signatories included Tran Phi Tuoc, Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) and Dr. Guenter W. Riethmacher, Country Director of German Technical Cooperation.

Under the agreement, the project will be implemented in five years starting in October 2008.

Funded by the German Government and implemented by the General Directorate of Vocational Training under the MoLISA, the project aims to ensure the sustainable improvement of the technical vocational education and training system.

It will focus on key matters such as improving the dialogue among ministries and concerned stakeholders on the legal framework for the vocational education system, ensuring demand-oriented training, enhancing cooperation between the state, enterprises and civil society, and making training plans for every region in economic potential sectors and quality management.

The first phase, running from 2008 to 2011, will receive 1.5 million Euros (US$2.25 million) from the German Government and the Vietnamese Government’s corresponding capital worth VND4.8 billion (US$300,000).
