Asia-Pacific regional conference launches today in HCM City

VOV.VN - National Assembly Chair Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan delivered a keynote address on May 11 to launch the Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals.

The 3-day conference in Ho Chi Minh City will focus on the effects of climate change and global warming, said Ngan in her opening remarks, a topic of great debate and of special interest to Vietnam.

Ngan noted the goal of the conference is to provide a forum for regional parliaments to meet face to face and develop comprehensive well thought out and practical strategies to cope with the effects of climate change.

In addition, she said, the conference will discuss the role of different stakeholders in responding to climate change.

Most importantly, it will address ways national parliaments can contribute through legislation, budgeting, and monitoring to the effort to meet international commitments on climate change.

Delegates at the forum will also address gender equality, healthcare, and resource mobilization, she averred.

Deputy Chair of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong welcome delegates to the conference.
