NZ Governor General upbeat about growing ties with Vietnam
VOV.VN -The Governor General of New Zealand has applauded the vigorous growth of New Zealand-Vietnam ties over the past 43 years since the two countries set up diplomatic ties.
At a ceremony on June 12 to receive the credentials from the new Vietnamese Ambassador to New Zealand,Ta Van Thong, she emphasized Vietnam’s important role in multilateral institutions.
Dame Patsy Reddy recalled the successful visit to New Zealand by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc last March, and affirmed her support for elevating the two countries’ relationship to a strategic partnership in the time to come as well as raising bilateral trade value to US$1.7 billion next year.
She highlighted Vietnam’s important role in the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as well as in such free trade agreements as the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand FTA and the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
Ambassador Thong said he was honoured when being appointed to the position and pledged his best effort to enhance the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
