The Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra (HPO) set off on May 4 for a tour of France, the first performing trip to the European continent by a Vietnamese symphony orchestra.
The 60-member party will perform under the baton of French conductor Xavier Rist. The conductor has chosen Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf”, Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”, and the Overture “Festival Day” from Vietnamese composer Dang Huu Phuc to round out his performance programme.
The HPO are slated to play in the Poitou-Charentes region on May 12-13 and in Choisy Le Roi, Paris on May 14. It will also join French rock band Indochine at their May 15 concert, in Paris-Bercy.
