Voters have agreed to the results of the 11th session of the 13th Hanoi City People’s Council while expressing their concern about issues related to economic development, urban management and the implementation of capital investment construction projects.

Representatives from the Hanoi Fatherland Front, the municipal People’s Council met with voters on December 11 to brief them on the results of the 11th session of the 13th municipal People’s Council for 2004-2009 term.


The Municipal People’s Council adopted nine major tasks and solutions aimed at boosting economic development and urban management, improving the quality of the environment, reinforcing administrative reform, combating corruption and solving social affairs.


Municipal leaders said that the city will pay more attention to accelerating the implementation of key projects and a programme to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.


In terms of the 2008 targets for socio-economic development, the city aims to reach growth rates in GDP of between 12.5-13 percent, social investment  (between 22-25 percent) and exports (20 percent). It also plans to build 1.5 million m2 of housing space and reduce urban unemployment rate to below 5.7 percent.


At the meeting, Hoang Minh Ngoc, Chairman of the Elderly Association in Hang Bong ward (Hanoi) said some urban management-related issues have not yet been resolved properly as far as environmental protection is concerned.


Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Council Le Quang Nhue pledged to closely work with the relevant agencies in the future to implement the council’s resolutions and deal with issues of voter concern effectively.
