Both the Ha Tay team and the Beijing team won eight gold medals in the 11th Hanoi Open International Athletics Championships, which concluded on April 29, but the Chinese team ranked top thanks to their overwhelming silvers.

The Hanoi team ranked third, followed by the Army team, while five teams failed to bag any medals.

In total, Vietnamese athletes participating in the event pocketed 84 medals, including 28 gold, 28 silver and 28 bronze medals.

Nguyen Truong Giang of the Ben Tre team was the only athlete who broke Vietnam's national record in the men's javelin-throwing with a new record of 65.22m.

The championships attracted 337 top national athletes from 36 local and foreign teams.
