Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen from southern Binh Duong province won a cross-country race at the Malaysia Terrain Cycling Open Tournament on May 1.
Though entering the competition at the last minute, Huyen overtook 26 cyclists from Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia to win the gold medal.
In her career, Huyen has gained three successive SEA Games gold medals, a bronze medal at the Asian Championship in the Republic of Korea in 2001 and a gold medal at the Asian Championship in Chinese Taipei in 2002. She has now set her sights on the 24th SEA Games in Thailand later this year.
The Vietnam terrain cycling team finished the tournament with one gold, three silvers and one bronze medal.
