The International Data Group (IDG) in Vietnam and the Chief Executive Officers and Chief Information Officers (CEO&CIO) Club have presented awards to nine outstanding CIOs and the best information technology (IT) products of 2008.

The awards presentation ceremony was held in Hanoi on September 17 to honour CIOs’ innovations in business, leadership capacities and contributions to developing the IT sector, as well as the application of IT in public relations and administration management.


Evaluation of CIOs in the business sector is based on their Impact on Business Performance; I
mpact on Customer services; Impact on Finance; and Impact on the Society that the CIOs have in each enterprise.


Criteria for CIOs in the government sector
is based on their Impact on Business Performance; Impact on Public Services; Impact on Finance; Impact on the Society; Impact on state governance and IT policies development; Impact on IT application and development among the community; and Impact on IT application in each government unit.


Dr. Do Trung Ta, Prime Minister Envoy of IT and Vice Chairman of the National IT Steering Committee, President of the Board of Selection said that since its establishment in 2005, the CIO Awards has encouraged the creativity and initiative of many CIOs.


”CIOs are those who are capable of obtaining the information, analyzing it, then proposing their ideas to the higher authorities - the CEOs - in order to increase efficiency and effectiveness in business. As a result, the role of a CIO is more and more important to the board of management of a group, a business or a unit,“ he added.


List of nine outstanding CIOs in 2008:

  1. Vu Duy Loi, Director of the Information Technology Centre of the Party Central Committee Office.

  2. Tong Viet Trung, Deputy General Director of the Military Communications Corporation (Viettel).

  3. Phi Quang Hung, Director of the management information system department of the PetroVietnam Drilling & Well Services Corporation (PV Drilling).

  4. Pham Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Bank for Industry and Trade (Vietinbank).

  5. Nguyen Xuan Phi, Chairman of People's Committee and Head of Administrative Reform Department, Ngo Quyen District, Hai Phong City.

  6. Nguyen Dai Tri, Director of the Informatics and Statistics Centre under the State Treasury, the Ministry of Finance.

  7. Le Xuan Vu, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Technological and Commercial Join-stock Bank (Techcombank).

  8. Dong Dai Loc, Major-General and Director of IT Steering Committee of Thanh Hoa Province Public Security Department.

  9. Ho Quang Thanh, Vice Director of Nghe An Province IT Steering Department.

On this occasion, the organising board also presented awards to the best IT products voted by CEOs and CIOs. The voting, which was conducted via the website (www.cio.com.vn) and nomination forms, aimed to recognise good IT products and IT solutions, which efficiently support CIOs in the implementation of IT projects.
