The National Assembly Standing Committee convened its 13th meeting in Hanoi on October 6 to prepare for the upcoming session of the legislature scheduled to open on October 16.

During the meeting, the committee will discuss reports on the implementation of socio-economic tasks for 2008 and the fight against crime and corruption, delivered by representatives of the Government, the Supreme People’s Court and the Supreme People’s Procuracy. It will examine the management and use of capital in State-run groups and corporations.


The Committee will also discuss the legislation programme for 2009, the draft law on real estate registration, the law on guaranteed transaction and the revised law on civil servants.


At the meeting, Head of the National Assembly Ombudsman Tran The Vuong said crime has continued to become more complicated this year, seeing an increase in juvenile delinquency, environmental law-breaking and foreign criminal offence.


Standing Committee members emphasised the importance of crime prevention as the best solution.
