Maritime authorities warn on piracy

The Vietnam Maritime Administration urged ship owners and maritime companies to implement maritime security plans to ensure safety for Vietnamese vessels operating in waters off East Sabah and south Philippines, reported Nhan Dan newspaper.

The move followed a report conducted by the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) on crew abductions from tug boats in waters off East Sabah of Malaysia and south Philippines.

From late March to late April, there were three abduction incidents of crews in this region, the newspaper cited the report.

The Malaysian Government temporarily banned the international trade route between East Sabah and south Philippines.

Malaysian and Philippine authorities will discuss measures to stop similar incidents.
