As many as 168 athletes are taking part in the first National Kick Boxing Championship, which opened in the central highland province of Dak Lak on October 2.

The athletes (108 men and 60 women) are from 18 provinces and cities across the country. They are competing in 20 weight categories, 11 for men and 9 for women.

The championship, which will last until October 11, creates an opportunity for Vietnamese boxers to improve their skills and gain more experience. It also aims to select the best athletes for the national boxing team in preparation for upcoming regional events, including the Asian Indoor Games in the Republic of Korea in 2013.
