Doors open wide for Vietnam when they face weaker opponents at group matches of the upcoming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games to be held in Indonesia next month.

Vietnam are in Group B together with Laos, Brunei, Myanmar, East Timor and the Philippines. They are likely to be among the two group winners to enter the semi-finals.

Officials of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) breathed a sigh of relief after taking part in the draw ceremony in Jakarta, Indonesia, on October 19.

Vietnam’s major opponents, namely Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia, are in group B.

SEA Games silver medallists Vietnam and defending champions Malaysia were selected as top seeds of the two groups.

Vietnam will play the opening game against the Philippines on November 3. They will then take on Myanmar, East Timor, Brunei and Laos on later dates.

Semi-final matches will take place on November 19 and the final game on November 21.

In the female event, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar and the Philippines will play in a round robin format.
