PM Dung concludes Myanmar trip for two summits

(VOV) -Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his delegation returned to Hanoi on June 23 after attending the two summits and an array of activities in Myanmar.

During the June 22-23 trip, Dung attended a number of activities organized by the Association of Vietnamese Investors in Myanmar. He attended a check-and-take-over ceremony of phase 1 of the Hoang Anh Gia Lai Complex in Yangoon and the inauguration ceremonies for the Finance Company and Insurance Corporation of the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV).

He also witnessed the signing of a number of cooperative agreements between BIDV and Myanmar’s banks.

PM Dung hailed the Association of Vietnamese investors in Myanmar and Vietnamese businesses for promoting economic, trade, and investment links, helping to elevate two-way trade to US$500 million this year. He asked the Association to continue supporting Vietnamese businesses to invest in Myanmar in 12 priority areas including finance, banking, trade, investment, and real estate. 

The same day,Myanmar President Thein Sein, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his counterparts from Cambodia, Laos and Thailand, along with ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh attended a dialogue with Ayeyawaddy-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) business representatives.

In his speech, Dung confirmed Vietnam's willingness to welcome foreign entrepreneurs and investors keen to do business in the Southeast Asian nation.

At the end of the summit, leaders adopted a joint statement and concurred to organise the eighth CLMV Summit in Vietnam in 2016. 

On the occasion, the Vietnamese leader also revealed a plan to hold a high-level business dialogue on the Mekong sub-region on the sidelines of the eighth CLMV Summit.
