PM gives nod of approval for Phu Quoc casino

(VOV) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has given the go ahead for an investment project to construct a tourism and entertainment complex along with a casino at the Phu Quoc island district in the southern province of Kiên Giang.

He charged the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Kien Giang province People’s Committee with oversight responsibility for the project and asked them to develop proposed regulations governing its operation to submit for his approval.

Phu Quoc island district is located in the centre of South East Asia on the coastal economic belt of Vietnam-Cambodia-Thailand.

Spanning an area of 583.23 square kilometers and with a population of 96,940, the island district is a special administrative economic zone, an international luxury eco-tourism and entertainment site and a regional financial centre.

It is also considered an important transport connectivity for domestic and international aviation, a research centre for science and technology and conservation centre for forest and marine bio-diversity. It also holds a strategic location for national security and defence.

On September 17, 2014, the PM issued a decision to recognize the Phu Quoc island district as a second-tier urban area.
