A consortium of five construction companies from the Republic of Korea (RoK) plan to invest US$150 million in the Lang-Hoa Lac highway extension in northern Hoa Binh Province according to a project proposal submitted to the Prime Minister.

According to the Hoa Binh provincial People's Committee, an MoU has been signed with the consortium and the project will be implemented by using BOT (build-operate-transfer) method. The 30km long six-lane Lang-Hoa Lac-Hoa Binh highway will connect Hoa Lac junction with Hoa Binh city and be 140m in width or 16.25m per lane.

It will also link the capital of Hanoi, to Xuan Mai and Mieu Mon urban areas, Hoa Lac High-tech Park and the Village of Vietnamese traditional nationalities. In addition, the highway will link the Ho Chi Minh Highway from its starting pointing in Hoa Lac to other roads, including Highway No 2, 6, 32, and 37.

The highway extension, to be the most modern highway in Vietnam, will develop the transport links within the province. Once operational, it will have a positive impact on socio-economic developments in Hoa Binh Province and other northern mountain areas.
