Ancient dance livens Trieu Khuc festival

(VOV) - Rain or shine the Trieu Khuc village festival held annually on the 9th day of the first lunar month features traditional – Con di danh bong – dancing, which dates back hundreds of years.

This year was no exception as hundreds came out for the centuries old festival that took place on February 27at Tan Trieu commune in the Thanh Tri district of Hanoi that also featured a number of other traditional dances such as Sinh Tien, unicorn and dragon.

The centuries old folk dance had a unique twist because dancers were in reality men cross dressing and disguising themselves as young girls. Any man who was brave enough to dress up in women’s traditional attire was eligible to enter the contest!

All in all it was lots of fun for everyone to watch men with handkerchiefs on their head, embroidered shoes, colourful ribbons, bamboo fans and drums in front of their chest using plastic balls stuffed with cotton as fake breasts.
