Nguyen Thi Hai failed to win a single medal for Vietnam as the last representative competing in the Beijing Paralympics on August 16.

The Vietnamese national top athlete failed to make top three of the women’s discus throw, F12/13 class after her 28.04m throw which ranked her at ninth.

Hai, who was the reigning champion of the Southeast Asian Games with three gold medals, could not compare with strong rivals who set three new Paralympics records.

Vietnam sent nine athletes to Beijing. Although all athletes came home without medals, sprinter Dao Van Cuong who was classed in T11 for the blind set an Asian record in the men’s 400m as the only athlete who entered the semi-finals of any event.

After events on September 16, China topped the medals table with five golds, five silvers and one bronze. Hong Kong won three golds, one silver and two bronzes to stay in second place. Belarus and France shared the third position with one silver apiece.
