The Vietnamese embassy in Cambodia, in conjunction with the Overseas Vietnamese Association, has held an urgent support campaign for Vietnamese residents in the country who have been heavily hit by the recent floods.

The Vietnamese embassy sent 5 tonnes of rice and more than 260 packages of instant noodles to the flood victims.

The floods have swept over 16 provinces along the Mekong River and the Great Lake region in Cambodia since early this year. More than 90,000 houses were submerged in water and over 10,000 households were forced to evacuate. Nearly 60,000ha of rice crops were totally destroyed.

According to statistics, more than 12,000 Overseas Vietnamese households have been affected by the floods; of which 7,000 are in Kandal province and approximately 2,000 others in Pray Veng province.
