Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh has asked the mountainous province of Thai Nguyen to give priority to developing mineral processing, agro-forestry and tourism industries to become a prosperous province in the north-western region.

While working with the provincial Party Committee on May 11, Mr Manh said economic structure in the province has begun shifting in a positive direction and people’s living conditions have improved remarkably.

However, he pointed out that Thai Nguyen remains a province with low development levels compared to other provinces across the country.

“The provincial Party committee, local Government and people need to exert more efforts to lessen the development gap with other provinces by clearly defining advantages to build sound socio-economic development,” said Mr Manh.

He asked the province to solve the issues of land clearance, compensation, resettlement and job creation for those whose land was reclaimed.

He also asked the provincial Party Committee to improve the leadership capacity of its organisations and members, speed up the self-criticism spirit and fight against corruption, wastefulness and power abuse.

Visiting the Command of Military Zone I, he praised the armed forces and people of all ethnic minority groups for successfully defending the nation's strategic stronghold in the northwestern region. He stressed the need to maintain security for the upcoming election of deputies to the 12th National Assembly and expressed his belief that the armed forces of the military zone will continue to promote glorious tradition to build and defend the country.
