President Quang begins State visit to Cambodia

VOV.VN - The two-day State visit to Cambodia by President Tran Dai Quang demonstrates the importance Vietnam attaches to elevating the friendly neighbourliness relations and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries to a higher level. 

President Tran Dai Quang and his delegation arrived in Phnom Penh on the afternoon of June 14 for a State visit to Cambodia June 15-16 at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni. 

Distinguished guests welcoming the Vietnamese delegation at Phnom Penh International Airport included Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Royal Palace Samdech Chaufea Veang Kong Sam Ol, Minister of Tourism Thong Khon, Vietnamese embassy staff in Cambodia, Vietnamese business and community representatives along with Vietnamese students in Cambodia.

Right after his arrival, the State leader visited the Vietnam Embassy and met representatives of the Vietnamese community and investors in Cambodia. 

Vietnam Ambassador Thach Du briefed the President on major activities run by embassy staff in Cambodia, the situation regarding Vietnamese nationals, and opinions from business representatives and students.

President Quang praised the embassy and Vietnamese representative offices in Cambodia for their efforts to foster the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations. 

He underlined the need to promote economic, cultural and defence diplomacy, together with their political tasks regarding external relations.

They were asked to act as a bridge for the successful organization of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic ties in 2017, and educating the Vietnamese community in Cambodia on bilateral ties.

Acknowledging what the Vietnam Embassy has achieved over the past years, on behalf of the State and the Party, President Tran Dai Quang presented the Labour Order- second class to embassy staff and officials in Cambodia.

Sharing the difficulties facing Vietnamese people in Cambodia, President Quang said he will raise their recommendations and expectations to Cambodian leaders to help them enjoy a better life and more favourable business conditions. 

He displayed his belief that Vietnamese people will unite, provide mutual support, strictly comply with the host country’s law and make greater contributions to the Vietnam-Cambodia friendly neighbourliness. 

The State leader used the occasion to present US$20,000 to the embassy’s study encouragement fund and the same amount to the fund in support of Vietnamese Cambodians.
