The General Statistics Office (GSO) on May 18 held a meeting to announce the Prime Minister’s decision on the launch of the Vietnam Standard Industrial Classification (VSIC) 2007 and the Minister of Planning and Investment’s decision on the VSIC 2007 content.

The VSIC 2007 was built based on the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC Rew.4) and the ASEAN Common Industrial Classification (ACIC). In addition, the GSO has developed the five-digit VSIC 2007 from the current situation of the country’s industrial classification issued in 1993 and the demand for statistics.

Le Manh Hung, GSO director said the VSIC 2007 will be used to collect statistics for the country’s economic sectors through surveys and statistical reports. The VSIC 2007 will also be used as an important document for researchers in analyzing and evaluating the country’s socio-economic development, as well as in some business activities such as business registration and tax evaluation.
