Vietnam, UK reinvigorate defence ties

(VOV) - On November 4, General Do Ba Ty, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defence held a welcoming reception for Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, Vice Chief of the Defence Staff of the UK who is on a November 3-5 working visit.

“Vietnam and the UK should expedite the signing of cooperation agreements in the fields of training and national defence,” said General Ty in a prepared speech at the ceremony.

Ty emphasised that cooperative relations between the ministries of defence and the two armies have achieved a high level of success, but more needs to be done, noting specifically the two sides need to speed up implementation of an agreement signed back in November 2011.

During his visit, Stuart Peach and his delegation will pay a courtesy visit to Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh and hold talks with Vietnam’s Ministry of Defence to discuss measures to reinvigorate cooperation between the two nation’s armies.
