National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong has called on the Vietnamese and Chinese legislative bodies to develop their cooperation in a more effective and practical way to promote bilateral ties.

Mr Trong made the call while receiving Yang Guoliang, Vice Chairman of the Committee for External Affairs of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China in Hanoi on August 31.

The Chinese official said that China always treasures the time-honoured friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam and is willing to work with Vietnam in realising the agreements reached by the two countries’ leaders to bolster bilateral relations.

He shared Mr Trong’s view that the two legislative bodies should increase cooperation, particularly in making laws and building socialism in each country.

The Chinese official conveyed an invitation to Mr Trong to visit China from NPC Chairman Wu Bangguo. In turn, Mr Trong asked his Chinese guest to pass on his invitation to Chairman Wu to visit Vietnam.

Earlier the same day, the Chinese delegation held talks with a delegation from the NA Committee for External Affairs.
