The 18th National Petanque Tournament opened in Ho Chi Minh City on September 10, attracting the participation of nearly 200 athletes and coaches from 17 teams from HCM City and a number of foreign countries, such as Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.

The men’s and women’s teams compete in both single and team events in a round robin format.

Le Hong Trieu, director of the HCM City Cultural Palace and head of this year’s tournament, says the tournament is a good opportunity for Petanque athletes to practice and gain experience for upcoming regional events, such as the 3rd Asian Indoor Games and the 25th Southeast Asian Games in Laos.

The competition will last until October 12.
