Vietnam hopes to receive further assistance from the international community, including Oxfam Great Britain, said State Vice President Truong My Hoa while receiving Oxfam GB Executive Director Barbara Stocking in Hanoi on July 23.

Mrs Hoa spoke highly of Oxfam GB’s support for Vietnam in improving the livelihood of underprivileged farmers and workers, primary education access and quality for the poor and ethnic minority people, humanitarian aid, disaster prevention and mitigation and gender equality.

Mrs Stocking thanked the Vietnamese Government for creating favourable conditions for Oxfam GB’s operation in the country. She said that Vietnam has made encouraging achievements in socio-economic development in recent times, particularly in poverty reduction, adding that her organisation will introduce the achievements to other countries.

During her visit to Vietnam from July 17-23, Mrs Stocking made a three-day fieldtrip to the northern province of Lao Cai where she decided to expand Oxfam’s activities. Accordingly, Oxfam will encourage a new educational model and implement a poverty reduction programme aimed at producing safer food products.
