Vietnam National Alumni Conference opens in Hanoi
(VOV) - Vietnamese graduates of Australian universities have gathered for the “Education for Development: Future Collaboration and Directions” National Alumni Conference in Hanoi on December 14–15.
Hosted by the Australian Embassy, the event also marks the 40th anniversary of Vietnamese-Australian diplomatic ties. More than 500 alumni and renowned scholars are participating.
The conference reviewed the contributions Vietnamese graduates of Australian universities have made to Vietnam’s development, and stoke bilateral relations in all fields.
Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Phillip Stonehouse acknowledged the robust health of bilateral relations and the achievements of the thousands of Vietnamese students who have passed through Australian universities.

The two-day conference will discuss Vietnam’s international integration progress in terms of human resource development, public sector reforms, healthcare, sustainable agricultural development, and regional economic integration.
Former West Australian Governor and Sydney University Management Faculty Head Professor Geoff Gallop stressed the importance of education in successful sustainable development.
Education not only improves the competitiveness of domestic businesses but also assists communities to overcome disease and economic disadvantage.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Tran Quang Quy thanked the Australian Government for supporting Vietnam’s human resource development and education.
Forty thousand Vietnamese students have received scholarships to study in Australia since the two nations established diplomatic relations in 1973.
Australia awards Vietnamese students 400 scholarships every year.
