In the first half of this year, the total export turnover of the garment and textile sector hit more than US$3.488 million, up 26.3 percent from a year earlier. Of this figure, US$1.973 million was earned from garment and textile exports to the US market, an increase of 20.7 percent compared to the same period last year, according to Le Quoc An, Chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas).
To ensure competition on an equal footing, over the past eight months, Vietnam not only increased export volumes but also kept selling prices at the same level as at the time when the US applied a strict control mechanism for its garment and textile products.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade said it will work together with the Vitas to make a stronger approach to the US business circles, especially through the scheduled visit to Vietnam by the US Trade Secretary in October in a bid to encourage them to remove the control mechanism or reduce controls on a number of categories for Vietnamese garment and textile products.
